Recent Updates May 10, 2004 Long Time Gone. Shamefully, it's been almost a year since any real progress has been made. A few new articles have been added, and a few more coins described. As I've come to accept the impossibly long amount of time that this project will take to complete, I've decided to added "Last Updated" notations to the bottom of each page as they are revised. The population figures are accurate as of that date. I appreciate the support and encouragement that has trickled in, and please be assured that work on the site will continue. –Scott Schechter, info@commems.org
June 20, 2003 What’s new to the site? Well, everything is new! This project was conceived about six months ago, when a few conversations with clients led me to believe that so much had been left unsaid about commemoratives, despite the many volumes devoted to them. After fifteen years of collecting and three-years as a full-time dealer, I felt I had a lot to share that would benefit the collector and dealer communities alike. Most of all, it seemed to me that so much interest was being paid to regular issue Twentieth Century coins (Buffalo nickels, Lincoln cents, and Walking Liberty halves especially), and yet the Commemorative coins of the same era were being altogether left out. I dragged my feet for about four months and finally got around to setting up the site at the end of April. I was productive through May, but an increased travel schedule, work, and a move, significantly slowed progress. The scope of the project had also grown larger than I first intended. I finally realized that a website could still function well as a "work in progress," and I made the decision to launch the site, long before completion. First, I apologize for the few dead links and the numerous "coming soon!" notices on the site. They will be addressed in a timely fashion. Second, I’d like to enlist your help. If you have anything to contribute, please do. I plan on getting contributions posted as I continue work on the body of the site. Third, while this site is strictly non-commercial, I may at some point raise funds to cover hosting expenses and the hourly wage of a webmaster. If there are no major objections, I may resort to selling some ad space on the site or include a sponsored links section. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I’d love to hear your comments and complaints (but be nice!). –Scott Schechter, info@commems.org
